Our Facility

Our Lab

It is hard to overstate the convenience of our on-site lab services. Besides saving time, gas and aggravation, your test results are right here in our office under the direct supervision of Dr. Stoelk and his team. The results are timely and nothing gets lost. For our many out of town patients, we will coordinate with your local facilities and our staff helps you manage the process so it is practically seamless.

Northwest Fertility Center is conveniently located in the RiverPlace complex, off Naito Parkway near downtown Portland. There is plenty of parking, including free spots in our building. For parking  details, visit our Contact Us page.

If you have had appointments at multi-physician facilities, the first thing you will notice is that our practice feels small. Compared to them, we are. Dr. Stoelk is our only physician and his staff is a tight team who enjoy working together. Here you are a person, not a number. It is intentional. Rather than say “small,” we say cozy … personal … friendly … comfortable. For something as personal as your fertility issues, it feels right.

Nevertheless, our office houses a modern IVF program with a state-of-the-art embryology, andrology (sperm), and hormone assay laboratories in which we can conduct most high-tech tests and treatments needed for many patients. Yet we perform this level of care in a comfortable and personal environment. For something as important as your fertility problems, this feels like smart medicine.

Some common lab procedures

Andrology Lab

Andrology is the study of male fertility, and our lab is equipped to test our male patients and their semen for all factors that impact fertility.

Comprehensive Fertility Testing

Comprehensive fertility testing is done to pinpoint the reason for infertility. After Dr. Stoelk understands your situation and reviews any previous tests, you’ll work together on a plan for further testing and appropriate treatments. A hormone analysis lab, andrology lab, IVF embryology lab, and ultrasound are all available on-site, making testing and treatment as convenient and cost-effective as possible.

Donor Sperm Bank

The NW Fertility Center has a donor sperm bank. Sperm specimens are selected for the individual couple as a substitute for the husband’s sperm, based on his physical characteristics.Pregnancies are usually achieved using donated sperm by artificial insemination, either by intrauterine insemination (IUI) or by in vitro fertilization (IVF)

*Please note: our clinic does not accept sperm donations at this time.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

For mild or moderate sperm problems, the semen specimen is prepped in the laboratory by a washing and centrifuging process so that it can be placed inside the woman’s uterus. This greatly increases the effectiveness of sperm and frequently results in pregnancy.

Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis involves screening embryos or oocytes prior to in vitro fertilization implantation to check them for potential problems. The goal is to select the healthiest embryos to increase the likelihood of a successful pregnancy and delivery.

Semen Analysis

Semen analysis is microscopic analysis of sperm count, motility, and shape to determine if the sperm are a problem limiting fertility. Other more specialized tests can also be performed when indicated to detect immune or DNA issues.

Sperm Cryopreservation

Sperm cryopreservation is the process of freezing sperm for later in vitro fertilization use.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive screening the doctor uses to view internal pelvic organs. This is an indispensible helpful tool to diagnose many infertility and gynelogical problems, assess ovulation quality, and monitor ovulation treatments.

from our baby blog

BoasefamilyIt has been 8 months since our beautiful little boy was born and we still talk about how much we love Dr. Stoelk and his staff. I simply can’t say enough wonderful things about Northwest Fertility and our experience. From the first phone call to their office, to our first meeting with Dr. Stoelk, to our last ultrasound, I was blown away by their sincerity, optimism, professionalism, expertise, confidence, and dedication to my husband and I’s future family. After a few appointments, Dr. Stoelk found the perfect treatment for us. We went from being terrified that kids may not be in our future (due to negativity from other doctors) to being blessed with our sweet Lincoln in just 5 months.

This was easily the absolute best experience I have ever had in a doctor’s office. I have already recommended him to many of my friends and will continue to do so. It just doesn’t get any better that this staff. Thank you so much, Dr. Stoelk. You have a very special place in our hearts.
